Storm and emergency jobs — a tree that's already down, or actively leaning on a structure or power line — don't follow the size-based ranges above. Fayette County gets its share: summer thunderstorms with straight-line winds coming up from the southwest, ice in a bad winter, and every few years the remnants of a Gulf hurricane pushing up through west Georgia and dropping pines across whole neighborhoods. Emergency pricing reflects the after-hours response, the extra rigging it takes to work a tree that's already under load, and the risk to the crew — and the city still wants the debris off the property within 30 days, storm or not. It runs up to $5,000, depending on complexity. Before You Start
Peachtree City is the one place in this part of Georgia where a homeowner usually does need a permit: any canopy tree 18 in. or larger and any understory tree 8 in. or larger needs a city tree removal permit before it comes down, the contractor has to hold a current occupational tax certificate to pull it, and trees inside a buffer or the greenbelt can't come down at all without written approval. Fayetteville, Tyrone, Senoia, and Newnan each do it differently. Should You DIY?
